safety issues of construction workers

Security at construction sites is a big issue. How serious accidents occur are innumerable, thanks to the structural nature. Federal OSHA statistics show that in 2011 the U.S. Of the approximately 4,600 fatal work-related accidents that occurred in the recent year, 721 of them occurred at construction sites. It does not even count the thousands of fatal accidents that can permanently change an employee’s life.

What can safety professionals do to promote structural safety and prevent serious accidents at their worksites? Having a security-minded culture requires the support of management and having the right security equipment for employees to use. If using that they are already in place, here are some questions that construction safety professionals can ask to constantly improve the security at their job sites.

1. What have I done today to make my job site safer?

2. Do the employees working here today use the security equipment provided to them?

3. Did I talk to any workers in the last two days to find out another thing about safety in this job?

4. Has there been any change in the job site since yesterday, it introduces a new danger that was not here yesterday?

5. Did I walk into the job site today for unsafe behaviour or equipment?

6. Am I prepared to take action against employees who constantly behave in an unsafe manner to keep them and the people who work with them safely?

7. Did I talk to my employer recently about security issues on this job site?

8. When was the last time I checked OSHA regulations to make sure no new requirements were affecting my employer job sites?

9. Do employees think they can come to me about security issues so they “don’t leave a single penny” on my employer with OSHA?

10. Did I do what I promised others I would do to take care of potential security hazards on this job site?

Everyone says security is their number one priority at their job sites, but in 2011 at least 721 job sites did something wrong. While employees have their own responsibility for job security, it is the job of security professionals to ensure that those words are translated into action
